I can't believe my nephew Griffey is almost one. Here are a few of his 1 year old pictures that I took yesterday!

Young Love and Basketball
Kayla was sitting on the bench during her basketball game the other day when the girl next to her saw her boyfriend come into the gym. She got really mad when he stopped and hugged one of the cheerleaders and for the next few minutes whined about how he was flirting with other girls and must not really like her....blah...blah....blah. Kayla got really annoyed and said to me, "Mom...we were in the middle of a game....I don't have time for that boy stuff....I was just wondering when coach was going to put me in the game!" That's my girl!

Senior Night
Last night was senior night. They had a really nice ceremony for the seniors and their parents before the game. I was a mess and my daughter is only a freshman. I can't imagine what I'm going to be like when it's Anna and Kayla's last game. The seniors this year are amazing and have been so good to the freshman. They are really going to miss those girls next year!!!
Basketball Finals
Kayla's basketball team got waxed in the championship game last night, but you'd never know it from their reactions. There were no tears for these girls. Even though they took 2nd place they celebrated like winners and we are so proud of them! They had a great season and brought home a HUGE trophy. Sadly, this is the end of Kayla's basketball career. She is going to stick with soccer from here on out, but she had a great run! GO BOLTS! You know....IT!

Historical Moment
Today....Thursday, January 27, 2011 will be remembered forever as the day that Anna Lee Goebel wore a dress! No, this isn't a sick joke. It really did happen and no one was more shocked than me! Let me explain something about Anna. She is the biggest tomboy that you will ever meet. She won't wear her hair in a ponytail, she lives in soccer shorts and uses absolutely NO MAKEUP! For her 8th grade promotion she was one of only 2 girls who wore pants. ( And she didn't care.) That is why I am so shocked that she actually wore a dress today. And what's even a bigger shocker....we bought the dress in under 10 minutes for $10 and no tears or tantrums! It just goes to prove that miracles do happen and little ones do grow up.
The reason that she wore the dress was a little thing I like to call Freshman hazing! It's senior night on the varsity soccer team so the seniors told all the girls that they had to dress up for school today. And by dress up they meant wear a dress! Sometimes all it takes is a little peer pressure....HA HA! Anyway....she looked adorable! Next step...a ponytail!

Don't Run It Up
I was proud of the girls on Anna's soccer team last night. They were playing a team who has lost every game this year. They haven't scored a goal and they have had the score run up on them every game. One team beat them 17-0! The girls on Anna's team decided that they were not going to run up the score and that they wouldn't score more than 6. Our coach agreed and after 20 minutes and 4 goals he took out most of the starters and played the bench plus a few borrowed JV players the rest of the game.
For a few of the girls this would have been their chance to bump up their own number of goals, but they took the high road and showed great sportsmanship and integrity! Way to go Lady Eagles!!!

My Wife...I Mean Husband
Yep! That's my wife...I mean husband...and yes, he is wearing a dress! Wasn't the first time and I'm pretty sure it won't be the last. Nothing that man does surprises me any more. This picture was taken during the talent show at winter camp. Not sure what his talent was....Boy....he sure makes one UGLY woman. Thank goodness he is way hotter as a man! See...
Ok...so maybe that's not the best example. How about this one?
No...wait...this one?
Do I have any normal pictures of this man???
Apparently not.
Weekend Update
It's been a busy few days and so I haven't had much of a chance to update the blog. Here's a quick recap.
Anna's soccer team won 1 game 5-0 and then lost their last 2 games...3-1 and 2-1. The good news is that Anna got two goals. She is tied now for the most goals with senior captain Lacy who got a beautiful hat trick in the game against Camelback. They play tonight and then again on Friday. Should be wins! Kayla's team is 7-1. They play the only team they lost to again today. Pretty sure she won't get much playing time in this game. Playoffs next week!
Ryan and Anna went to winter camp over the weekend at the Young Life camp up in Williams. I drove up a bunch of girls after the soccer games. That place is awesome! Great facilities. They said it was the best winter camp ever. There was a lot of snow on the ground and it was freezing! I was glad to drive back home to the valley and warmer weather! They had a great time!!!! Kayla got to go the weekend before for the jr. high camp. She had a great time, but was mad that the senior high camp was a day longer.

Sports Update Again
O'Connor played Valley Vista Tuesday night and won 1-0. It should have been a blowout, but VV played in the box the entire night and kept us from scoring. It was great strategy on their part, trying to force a tie, but in the last 3 minutes of the game Erin managed to squeeze one past the goalie. It was truly the most boring game ever!
I had to miss the game last night because of work, but Anna's team won 5-0 over Camelback. Anna got her first yellow card in high school soccer. Anna and the goalie collided and Anna went down. The ref called the foul on Anna even though she was the one who got flattened. She got a yellow card for saying "Seriously?" when the ref called the foul on her. After the game he told Anna it was a Life Lesson. I didn't think refs were there to teach life lessons. I thought they were there to ref a game, but whatever....I told Anna she needs to keep her mouth closed and always respect the refs no matter if she agrees or not. That is my life lesson for her. Anna's team is 4 and 2 now. Big game against her best friend's team on Friday.
Kayla's basketball team won yesterday and then again today. They are 6-1. The makeup game from the lock down was today. Kayla had a great game! Next week is the last game then playoffs!

Lock It Down
Kayla's team was just getting ready to take the court yesterday when the police called and put us on lock down. The only thing they said was that there was something going on in the neighborhood. The teachers and staff quickly moved everyone onto the bleachers, covered the windows and turned out the lights. Have you ever had to sit in the dark for 45 minutes with a bunch of unsupervised jr. high students? NOT FUN! We found out later that there had been a car chase near the school and the suspect had ditched the car and was running through backyards. Friends that live in that area told me that the police were doing a sweep of the neighborhood house by house and telling everyone to go inside and lock their doors. Eventually he was caught but by that time it was so late that Kayla's game was rescheduled. She was bummed but it was an interesting night to say the least.

That's Greek to Me!
Sports Update (I really need a better title)
Anna's high school team won their game against Boulder Creek 3-1 on Friday night. Anna scored another goal! Kayla had to miss her soccer game on Saturday because she was at winter camp, but made it in time for the game Sunday afternoon. Her team won both games 2-0 and 5-0. Big basketball game this afternoon against Deer Valley.

Sports Update
They say that there's a first time for everything and last night was our time. For the very 1st time in Lady Eagle soccer history they beat Westview and Anna scored the winning goal!!! She now leads her team for the most goals scored this season!

Bag Boy
When we were at the mall the other day and Kayla bought a hoody at Hollister. On the way out of the store she handed me the bag to carry. I told her that it was her bag and she needed to carry it, but she got very upset and basically refused. This is so not like Kayla, but I couldn't figure out what the big deal was. Finally, I got her to spill her guts and tell me that she didn't want to carry the bag because she was embarrassed that there was a "naked boy on it".
Most girls her age want to carry around a Hollister bag just so they can look cool. She could care less about looking cool or boys!
She is too funny!

Christmas 2010 Recap
We packed a lot of stuff into our Christmas break this year. Here is a quick recap.
-We had our annual fundraiser at Barnes and Noble and raised over $900 for our soccer team. Had fun hanging out with the team families. One guy that stopped to have his presents wrapped was a professional ref for the MLS and women's college soccer.
-Children's Christmas musical was great and the kids did a fantastic job. I was so impressed!
-Christmas at Grammy's, fun as always. Loved watching Grif open his presents! The girls were spoiled as usual. The big gift...Ipads.
-Our friends from soccer, Charlie and Kayla, came to our Christmas Eve service at church and so did Timmy, Lindy, Marcy and Logan.
-Spent a week in Indiana visiting Ryan's family. Always nice to spend time with family and old friends.
It was a fun Christmas, but feels great to get back home and back to our regular schedule.
