What's In A Name

I think it's very interesting what people choose to name their kids. As a former teacher I know how bad it can be for a kid when the parents try to go "out of the box" with their name. I once had a student named Nike Black...not joke. Poor kid....didn't work out so well for him. For whatever reason celebrities can seem to pull off naming their kid something completely wacky....Apple, Kyd, Phinneas...but for the average Joe...it's doesn't always work out that well. Today we found out that Ryan's cousin just had another baby! They named him Humphrey Lambert. When Kayla heard the name she said...."That's not a name for a baby...That's a name for a camel."

Leave me a comment with any funny names you have heard over the years!

Wet Presidents

This weekend was the big President's Day tourney here in PHX. It's a national, invitation only tournament with teams from all over the USA and Canada attending. It also happened to be the wettest weekend in a long time. It rained, it hailed and it reeked havoc on the whole weekend. Anna's team only got to play one game and determined the rest on shoot outs. They didn't end up placing in the finals. Kayla's team got to play their games, in the rain, with shortened halves. They ended up with a win and 2 ties and didn't qualify for finals either. I feel really bad for the teams that flew out here and spent all that money. But, what can you do about it? All in all it was a pretty lousy weekend for soccer.

Proud Mamma

I am so proud of Anna. She had her soccer banquet tonight at the Arrowhead Country Club. She was voted Best Offensive Player and received All Region honorable mention. She also received her varsity letter! As Lauren would say, "Way to go Freshman!"

Turbo Kick!

Great fun and burned so many calories! Beats the eliptical any day of the week.

Griffey is 1

Today is my nephew Griffey's birthday. I can't believe that he is already one! Happy birthday Grif! We love you!

I Be Up In the Gym Just Workin' On My Fitness

Somehow between my knee surgery and coke habit (Coca Cola) I've managed to put back on almost all the weight I worked so hard to get off. So I joined the gym. I also cut back on the coke and journal what I eat and in just 5 days...I've already lost 3 pounds. I feel so much better! Last night I decided to try a Zumba class. I was a little nervous because I have very little coordination when it come to dancing, but I absolutely LOVED it!!! It was so much fun! I was able to keep up, but I will never be able to shake my hips like our instructor. I'm sure I looked totally ridiculous, but I burned 783 in one hour so who cares?! I'm going to try a turbo kick class tonight. Kickboxing was my favorite class when I went to Lifetime Fitness and it got me in the best shape of my life. Hoping it will work this time too! I will be 40 this year (how is that even possible) and want to go into the next decade in better shape than I was in my 20's. I have a lot of work to do!

Starbucks Diva

I went to Starbucks on my way to work this morning. I am not a coffee drinker but their green tea lemonade helps me cope with my self imposed one coke a day rule. (Let's see how long that lasts!) Starbucks is a GREAT place to people watch and listening to them order cracks me up! What language are they speaking anyway?? It takes 5 minutes just to order one drink. "I'd like a Venti, sugar-free, non-fat, vanilla soy, double shot, decaf, no foam, extra hot, Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha with light whip and extra syrup." Really? People take their drinks too seriously! I see a lot of Diva's at Starbucks, but this lady today was the worst. Yeah...she was a lot ridiculous. When she got her drink she argued with the lady about the Chi and the milk for like 10 minutes. I could tell the barista was getting frustrated, but she kept her cool and her smile and explained the process she used. The lady kept complaining and then finally told the barista she needed to remake it because she likes her drink hot. Seriously? It was hot when she got it....if she just would have shut up it would have been fine. The barista had another girl remake it (the same way I might add).

In the diva's defense...I guess if you pay $5 for a drink it better be right.

iphone

I got my new iphone last night!!! I am so excited I can hardly stand it! So glad to be rid of Lucy the Droid! She was the worst phone ever!! (Hence the name Lucy...Lucifer...devil phone...) This new little gadget fits in perfectly with my ifamily....ipod, ipad and now the iphone! Haven't had much of a chance to play with it since it just came last night. Most excited I think about the face time and the hotspot so I can use my ipad wherever! I was surprised at how small and thin it is. Was afraid it would be to bulky, but not at all. It is so pretty! Can I say pretty about a piece of technology??

Varsity Soccer Freshman Year

Last night Anna's HS soccer season officially ended. The O'Connor Lady Eagles played a GREAT game but lost in overtime in the 1st round of state playoffs. It was freezing cold and the wind reeked havoc in the ball, but the girls gave it their best shot. I am so sad to see the high school season end. Anna told me last night that she met several of the goals she set for herself this year. She was a starting varsity player (as a freshman), she scored the 1st goal of the year and also scored the 1st goal at home. The only goal she didn't meet was being the leading scorer. She came in 2nd with a total of 12 goals behind senior, Lacy, who scored 14. I say she had a great season and I am very proud of her! Can't wait until next year when both of the girls will be Lady Eagles!
